Sudhan education, conference conceived an idea to establish a first polytechnic  institute at rawalakot with the name of a famous man of the tribe khan Muhammad khan  (khan sahib)for imparting technical  education to new generation of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Sudan educational conference provided 61 kanal land at trar deewan  4KM away from rawalakot for this purpose.
Latter on Govt. of Azad Jammu and Kashmir  decided to make its construction and completed its construction and they completed its construction in 1992. 
Building of khan sahib Govt Polytechnic Institute Rawalakot (G.P.I) rawalakot  consists of administration  block  academic block, workshop  block multipurpose hall student hostel and staff hostel.(in previous building)
The first class of diploma of associate engineer DAE   was started in 1996 in civil technology later on diploma in computer and information technology(CIT) was started in 2005.
Relevant short courses of these two technologies like land surveyor. Quantity surveyor, Office automation,AutoCAD, Computer Hardware  and Networking  were also offered in the institute
In 2008, evening  shifts of DAE civil technology was also started on self finance basis.
THE PLACE RAWALAKOT 
Rawlakot is the divisional head quarter of poonch division. It is the beautiful valley called Pearl valley surrounded with mountains.
Snow falls her during the winter and summer is very pleasant and here exists an ideal atmosphere for study.
